Something I have noticed is that we see what we are looking for!
Our emotions can paint a different picture of the world, and we can easily mistake these narratives for reality. Borrowing from a stirring TED Talk by Guy Winch and the song People are Strange by The Doors, I discuss the influence of perception.
One of the secrets to success is to not immediately take everything personally, to take a moment to see that the other person is usually caught up in their own stuff, it is rarely about you!
If you look for evidence of kindness, beauty and opportunities in the world, that is what you will find. If you look for evidence that everyone and everything is stacked up against you; that is what you will find. I'm not saying there is nothing bad or negative in the world, of course there is, however that is not the whole picture. It is important to look at the whole picture and see what is good in the world. We all have a confirmation bias, where we only look for confirmation of what we already believe to be true (and social media delivers), what is it that you believe and how is it showing up in your life?
So, gear up for a deep-dive into the realm of perception, personal narratives, and the art of creating opportunities. Remember, the stories we tell ourselves can shape our experiences, and we have the power to write them.
