This episode was inspired by this quote “mental health is the harmonious balancing of a network of relationships to yourself but also to other people.” Jordan Peterson, Psychologist
I discuss our relationship with smart devices and social media and how social media algorithms might be shaping us into isolated individuals, lost in echo chambers of agreement. I explain how this can disrupt our connections and our mental health, as the addictive dopamine rush of online activities increasingly influences our lives.
I also discuss how social distancing has contributed to our grappling with the challenges of fostering effective social interactions and developing our sense of self.
Coming out on the other side of lock-downs; it is important for us to reaffirm of the power of human connection and the importance of finding your tribe. This episode is an exploration of what harmonious balancing looks like and how to support good mental health.
Bits and pieces I referred to these in this episode:
From Boomers to Zoomers with Jean Twenge - Coleman Hughes podcast
Bees Need a Hive, Humans Need a Tribe (quote from Johann Hari)
Guy Winch TED Talk, Why we all need to practice emotional first aid: https://www.ted.com/talks/guy_winch_why_we_all_need_to_practice_emotional_first_aid?utm_campaign=tedspread&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tedcomshare
