You Have to Do It Ugly w/ Jeff Graves :: Ep 8 The Lyndsay Stafford Show
Manage episode 448632277 series 3604442
In this episode, Lyndsay chats with Jeffs Graves, a CPA and wealth manager at Smith Wynd Capital.
Jeff transitioned into financial advisory work after previously being a high school teacher and briefly pursuing a career as a pastor. When starting his own business, he focused on mitigating risks by gradually reducing his guaranteed income as his client base grew. He leveraged his existing community relationships to help build his client base. One of the biggest challenges he faced was overcoming his aversion to sales and cold outreach. He learned to not take rejection personally and use a systematic approach to client acquisition. He discusses a major benefit of working for himself, which has been the flexibility to be more involved in his family's life. Jeff's advice for aspiring entrepreneurs includes being practical and pragmatic, seeking advice from experienced individuals, and not being afraid of failure, which he sees as an opportunity to learn and improve.
