When athletes tear their ACL, or when people go through traumatic episodes, many doctors recommend 6 months to a year at a minimum for recovery. Yet, when new moms go through the experience of 9 months of pregnancy plus the body intensive trauma of giving birth, we’re expected to bounce back within 6 weeks. This pressure to bounce back, whether physically, emotionally or mentally, is unsustainable and unrealistic, but as women that message isn’t being spread enough. As a result, it can impact the way women and new moms view their bodies, their health and their nutrition. In today’s episode, we are talking to Deanna, a registered dietitian nutritionist, speaker, writer, entrepreneur, body confidence activist and food freedom coach. She has taken her Instagram community along her compelling journey of disordered eating, body acceptance, personal and business growth. Deanna's core philosophy encompasses an intuitive eating approach, and she continues to help her audience overcome rules and stress around food. During our conversation, Deanna shares her thoughts and experience with postpartum Instagram and the non diet space. She speaks on motherhood and postpartum recovery, seeking preventative support during and post pregnancy, and changing what you digest when it comes to what society preaches about your postpartum bodies, In this episode we cover:
  • Deanna shares how she got into the space of food freedom coaching and entrepreneurship [3:09]
  • The biggest surprise as a new mom, dealing with changes post partum and how to prioritize yourself [6:34]
  • Dealing with a changing body during pregnancy [16:40]
  • Navigating postpartum body messaging and seeking support [22:47]
  • Deanna’s pregnancy experience and advice [28:01]
