Dr. Scott Hamilton holds a M.Div., from George W. Truett Theological Seminary in Religious Education, a Th.M., from Brite Divinity School in Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Counseling, and a Ph.D., from Walden University in Counseling Psychology. Dr. Hamilton has been my academic advisor at Yellowstone Theological Institute where he is currently a Lecturer in Pastoral Care & Counseling and an Academic Administrator. The first class I took with Dr. Hamilton was entitled Pastoral Care & Conflict. We discussed real life situations amongst the students in order to identify healthy and unhealthy ways of dealing with conflict in the church. During one of the classes, I asked Dr. Hamilton the question “how does spiritual warfare impact conflict in the church?”. Though it wasn’t originally a topic for the class, it led us to have some great after class conversations. I gave Dr. Hamilton some of Dr. Kraft’s books to look over for us to have a frame of reference for our conversation. I asked Dr. Hamilton if he would be willing to help me walk out some of our prayer practices through his tool set and lens as a PhD in counseling psychology. I am keenly aware that we are prayer practitioners and NOT professional counselors and I always want to improve my understanding of scripture and prayer through that perspective.
