In this special episode of The Transactional Analysis Podcast, hosts Matt and John pay tribute to Dr. Mark Widdowson, a highly respected Transactional Analyst and a great contributor to the field, who sadly passed away in August of this year.

Dr. Widdowson was a guest on one of our earlier episodes, where he shared his deep knowledge and passion for psychotherapy and Transactional Analysis (TA). His influence on both the TA community and on each of us personally cannot be overstated.

In this episode, we honour his legacy by sharing reflections on his impact and by revisiting his powerful Research Award acceptance speech at the 2017 WTAC (World TA Conference) in Berlin, where he was presented with an award for his research on the effectiveness of TA Psychotherapy.

Dr. Widdowson’s dedication to TA research, particularly in the area of depression, continues to shape the field. His work brought significant insights into evidence-based psychotherapy, and he was known for making complex theories accessible and practical for therapists.

His energy, humour, and commitment to improving the lives of others were felt by all who knew him, and he has left an indelible mark on the TA community.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Widdowson speaks with his characteristic wit and passion, discussing the importance of research in TA, his journey in the field, and the future of TA as an evidence-based practice. His words are as relevant today as they were then, and we hope they inspire and remind listeners of his immense contribution.

This episode is our way of saying thank you to Dr. Widdowson, for all he gave to the world of TA, and for the countless lives he touched through his work and teaching.
