05: Anger, Expectations & Agreements – Part 1
Manage episode 377749170 series 3510893
Anger is a powerful emotion arising from tense situations. It builds just like a storm, sometimes developing over days, but capable of forming in just a matter of minutes.
As emotions evolve into feelings of frustration, it only takes a spark of lightning to bring about thunder and destruction.
The frustration and anger I experienced in my marriage exhausted my capacity to serve as a mother. But it wasn’t until I began to acknowledge my contributions to this stormy cycle that I was able to take action and make intentional choices to change my life.
In this episode I discuss the importance of Agreements vs. Expectations. When we choose to live in the world of expectations, we open the door to misunderstandings. This can lead to betrayal, bitterness and even outbursts.
When we seek agreements, we not only define our intentions, but create opportunity to align our purpose with others. And if we discover malalignments, we are afforded the opportunity to build something better.
