Today’s short episode is a recording of a conversation with Sam Quek MBE.

She’s an Olympic champion who helped secure a first ever gold for Great Britain’s Women’s Hockey team at the 2016 Rio games and has since gone on to have a successful broadcasting career, but for Sam Quek, nothing beats the pride she feels as a mother.

Sam, who is mum to a girl and a boy, knows what it’s like to balance being a parent with work commitments, and that’s why she’s behind a campaign to promote “parent pride”.

Quek believes parents should focus on the small achievements and take pride in the little things they have done, rather than focusing on what they haven’t.

But with “parent guilt” reported on widely, it’s sometimes difficult to escape the feeling that perhaps you’re not doing your best for your child with a new study by Haliborange revealing many mums and dads (62%) feel this way.

As well as discussing these aspects of the issue, we talked about how employers can best support mothers who choose to return to work.
