What is the music industry really like? Are you prepared to live a successful life doing what you love doing as an artist? If you had the need to travel full-time as a musician, are you financially comfortable right now to continuously support a high-priced lifestyle?
Here are a few points I think everyone who’s planning to launch or has already begun the music career journey should take note of:

  1. Be self-aware enough to know where your appeal lies
  2. Don’t be too afraid (or too proud) to collaborate
  3. Don’t be too afraid to look foolish when you first start
  4. Try to start thinking of investments as early as possible

The money in music if you aren’t careful, comes and goes like the wind. If you’re not conscious of what you’re doing with the money, you might have a really good year and still be wondering where all the money went in the end. Making music and supporting a music career costs money. As an artist, it becomes increasingly easier to have your say when you can actually pull your weight financially. In a room full of industry lords and big guys, it’s easier to insist on what you truly want if you have the funds to back it up. That’s why, in some cases, some musicians try their best to compromise with the label for the start of their career, earn aggressively, and then comfortably start calling the shots in their career. Having a well-known music career, especially one that starts lucrative enough, might easily give you the capital to venture into a lot of profitable things that will benefit you such as the large endorsement deals. The music industry is constantly changing, so be sure to build connections with other industry leaders, create your professional team (engineers, well-known DJ's, producers, booking agents, concert promoters, radio promo team, publishers, managers, publicist, attorney's and distributors) and then create a merchandise that can be sold to represent your brand. In today’s podcast, we will discuss success in the music industry, how to create and maintain your relevance in this industry.
