With a master’s degree in social work, Christina Merrill saw how managing a transplant diagnosis upended the lives of patients and their caregivers. She founded the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation (BMCF) in 1992 to help patients and their caregivers facing bone marrow and other transplants. In 2018, she expanded all services to cancer patients and their caregivers. In 2022, BMCF introduced Cancer Buddy, an app to connect transplant and cancer patients across the globe with another person, a cancer buddy, facing the same diagnosis.
