There’s Danger in Our Comfort Zones

“It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.” – Charles Darwin

Not many of us like change. Most of us find our comfort zones and never leave. We find something that works for us, and we keep doing it. We arduously avoid the types of experimentation and evaluation that force us to do something differently.

There’s danger in our comfort zones. The world around us is always changing. Technology changes. Industries change. Neighborhoods change. Customs and traditions change. Social mores and values change. (Thankfully) There’s nothing more dangerous for us than to stay the same.

In my day job, I’ve serviced industry leaders that are no more. Sears, Wards, Circuit City, Comp USA, Computer City- all once dominant are no more. Block Buster video came and went because they didn’t adapt.

We will suffer the same fate unless we learn to adapt and change. We have to ask if what we are doing is still working for us, if we can do it better, and if it is time to stop. We have to be open to innovation and experimentation. We have to be willing to learn, grow, adapt, and change.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
