Lisa helps clients feel beautiful in their skin by creating a lifestyle of movement and wellness from a place of love. Originally from California, Lisa has lived abroad in South America and Asia for almost 10 years. From a young age Lisa loved fitness and wellness and also spent almost 20 years working in education, specifically early years. Lisa's journey to find health and happiness, like many, has been a winding road. Then in her 30s Lisa experienced gut issues, hair loss and burn out which sent her searching for more answers. Since western medicine was not giving her answers Lisa found a health coach to do some deeper work, which is what inspired Lisa to train and become a certified health coach and personal trainer herself. Shelley used to be the stereo-typical higher achieving, super-busy, corporate girl. She worked insane hours, skipped meals, lost sleep, over exercised and by her own admission did not take care of her health. That all changed in 2010, when Shelley reached total burnout, her health crashed and Shelley lost all physiological function. Doctors wanted to admit her to hospital, telling her she was on ‘death’s doorstep’ and there was little hope to heal her fully. Shelley was eventually diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and spent many, many months bedridden, nursed day and night by her parents, unable to stay awake for more than 30 minutes a day. Despite speaking to several specialists, nobody was able to help. So, Shelley embarked on journey to heal herself, studying as a functional nutritionist. Shelley discovered that her body had been giving her signals for many years up to when her health finally totally collapsed, but she'd been too driven and busy to listen. Shelley was able to heal her own body and as a certified and trained functional nutritionist has now made it her career and passion to help others listen, treat and heal their bodies so they can live well. Shannon Harvey is a devoted wife, mother and award winning health journalist and filmmaker, on a mission to inform, empower and inspire people to make long-lasting health changes in their life. Shannon herself has battled her own health problems - being diagnosed with the auto-immune disease 'Lupus' several years ago. This led her to research and produce the documentary film 'The Connection'. While Shannon found plenty of recommendations on diet, sleep and exercise, discovering equivalent offerings to help the mind was more illusive, which prompted Shannon to look closely at the potential benefits of mindfulness and her most recent project the film 'My year of living mindfully'. During the making of this documentary Shannon embarked on a 365 day experiment that has turned in to over a 1000 days of devoted practice. In this interview Shannon shares what motivated her to make the film, her experience with vulnerability and how she believes vulnerability teaches us how to suffer better (as does mindfulness), which is an unavoidable part of being human. Olie Body is the Founder of 'Wā Collective', an Edmund Hillary Fellow, an award winning storyteller, TedX speaker and social entrepreneur. Aged 19 Olie moved to India to work on a project that provided bright reusable menstrual kits to the local school girls who otherwise would not have access to such things and were therefore house bound during their period. In 2016 aged 22, Olie began to question the system at home in New Zealand and through research found many New Zealanders were also struggling to afford the cost of how we manage menstruation. Through ' Wā Collective' Olie is crafting a paradigm shift by shaping what it means to inhabit this earth consciously, and with a pair of ovaries. 'Wā Collective' produces and provides menstrual cups with every cup sold subsidising a cup for students in need, keeping our next generation in class and stopping period poverty from adversely affecting education in New Zealand. In this interview we discuss a wide range of topics from period poverty, the research Olie has done around this, Olie's personal story and her own struggles with burnout and with showing her vulnerability to others, which she still admits feels very uncomfortable. Ollie Langridge is a Wellington based business owner, part-time yoga teacher and father of 5, who likes to roam the hills of South Wellington with his trusty dog Spanner. As well as being (in his own words) a 'regular suburban dad' Ollie is a passionate environmentalist. So much so that earlier this year Ollie spent 100 days (between May to September 2019), peacefully protesting on the front lawn of New Zealand Parliament in a bid for the Government to declare 'Climate Change Emergency'. Although Ollie had been gravely concerned about the state of the planet for some time, however the decision to embark on a 100 day protest wasn't preplanned. It all came about when Ollie read the latest UN Biodiversity Report back in May, which warned that our planet was in the middle of a mass extinction that could see one million species go extinct . In this episode Ollie talks about his experience over those 100 days, how it impacted him, his concerns for our planet and practical steps we can all take individually to make a difference as we face into a potential existential vulnerability that could affect us all.
