Greg Risling (Class of 1994) spent over two decades as a news reporter, including three years at the Los Angeles Times and 14 years at The Associated Press. Risling anchored the 9/11 coverage from the LA Bureau, covered multiple natural disasters, the Michael Jackson and other famous celebrity trials, the Academy Awards, and thousands of other local stories.
Now he works Media Relations for the LA County District Attorney's office, where he fields media requests and assists film makers on True Crime documentaries. On this week's episode, Risling shares stories from both jobs, why he made the switch, and advice for those debating whether to work in news or PR.
Greg and Josh also share their experiences about how former Professor Joseph Spevak drove them crazy as students because he was such a stern task master, but how grateful they are now because Spevak made them better writers.

"Where Ya At?" is a podcast focused on the School of Journalism and Media Studies at San Diego State University. Each week, during the Fall and Spring semesters, host Josh Suchon (Class of 1996) interviews alumni to learn about their experiences as college students, entering the workforce, key steps in their professional development, advice they'd give to current students, and details about how they covered a specific story.
