Setting boundaries with family members can be sooo difficult yet often necessary to have a healthy and strong relationships.
Most of us would rather avoid the conversation choosing rather to hide the hurt and anger we feel when our boundaries are violated, this overtime in some cases leads to resentment and bitterness.
When we’re young, most of us don’t think about how to set boundaries with our family. Our families, especially our parents, have a say in nearly every aspect of our lives, and we usually accept that — until we’re older and they continue trying to play this role.
For some, it's the in-laws who make our lives a misery, not necessarily because they are wicked or out to get us, but more often because we put up a smile face and they assume we are fine with their actions when we are not.
The fact that boundaries are important in relationships underscores the importance of setting and respecting boundaries. It’s important to understand and respect each other’s boundaries in a family, just as it’s important to respect the boundaries of people whom one does not know very well.
