Imagine being the only degreed engineer in Kandahar, Afghanistan, shortly after the devastating events of September 11th. That's the reality our guest, Lisa Jaster, lived through, serving seven years of active duty and transitioning into a reservist role, all while building a civilian career in engineering, project management, and leadership development. Embark on Lisa's unique journey as she shares her diverse set of missions ranging from horizontal construction, and vertical construction to actual combat operations.
Prepare to have your perspective shifted as Lisa details her transition from military service to engineering. Her military service endowed her with a priceless skill set to adjust to new situations, build teams to solve problems and gain exposure to different mindsets. This episode doesn't just highlight the transition but also explores the immense range of opportunities within the construction and engineering industry and how you can switch careers within the same industry while still growing and advancing.
Finally, be inspired by Lisa's story of being one of the first women to graduate from the first-ever integrated Ranger School. She shares her experience speaking to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and her transition back to the working world after graduating from Ranger School. Learn about her mission to 'delete the adjective' and reach out to military veterans, guiding them to transition their experiences into careers within the construction and engineering industry.
