When you walk through life, or a situation that is difficult, do you take the moment that you are in to appreciate the lesson you might be learning? Probably not. Trust me, I give you credit because I know you are doing the best you can in that situation, but you might not be in gratitude, especially if it is an argument that you are in. At that moment, we tend to hold onto our thoughts and feelings and EXPLAIN them as best and as proud as we can. The other person sucks, right? Their point is mute, they are not hearing you, you have something important to say and you want to be valued, but they are a dumbass and are not respecting you. Your arms go out to reach them for the chokehold you probably won’t do and your eyebrows are pointing South. WHAT DO YOU MEAN’s and SHUT THE FUCK UP’s are exchanged, because you and the other person both want the opposite party to be quiet, so they or you could be right. You have to win this argument, it’s important to win this argument. This argument is valuable time, so winning it is important. The things that are important you should win. This argument should end and you should be declared the winner. You earned it, you deserve it, YOU are right, so you want that 1st place argument trophy. It will look good next to the other ones you put on your shelf.

Isn’t this silly? Really? We do this all the time, and we watch other people argue and think, what dumb-asses, but never think that about ourselves and the other party involved in OUR argument. Once you are in the argument pool, everyone is flailing about and keeping their arms up. But once you climb out, you can WATCH all the idiots in the pool flailing and keeping their arms up.

I’m not perfect, I am an argument idiot from time to time, but there never is a point in my ego winning another argument trophy. There is no physical mantel to put it on. No one is coming over to see my collection of trophies. I don’t have anywhere to physically carry them around and show them off like a WWE wrestling belt. So…what the hell am I trying to win?

I don’t think I’m trying to win anything. I think I’m trying to defend my castle. When I feel that the bullets are flying and the giant horse is slinging boulders to knock down my towers, I feel I need to defend my structure. Here’s the problem. Most of the time we are in a Monty Python Movie. There are no real bullets being shot or giant boulders which will hurt our structure. You are most likely the guard at the top of the tower yelling, “Your father was a hamster and your mother smelled of elderberries!” The jabs that you feel are coming from King Author’s groupies who know nothing about anything. You’re probably just fine, you just forgot to see what is really being thrown at you. Make a scene out of it if you want, there is no stopping you. You can be the director and the camera man, so not only do you tell everyone what to do, you get the best shots for your advantage. If you can, just remember this: you can be the director and the cameraman, but do you want the world, your family, your kids, your friends, your loved ones, the group of people around you, and karma to see you directing like 300, or like Monty Python and the Holy Grail? The loudest one in the room, isn’t the most heard.
