The Cure for Anxiety Is Jesus and Sometimes Therapy and Medication
Manage episode 288882160 series 2857443
This episode will provide a broader perspective on how medicine and doctors are divine blessings. Is God in agreement with Christians taking anti-depressants for severe and chronic anxiety? Yes He is! Within many Christian circles, this topic comes with a lot of embarrassment, guilt and shame. Why? Because when it comes to our hearts and minds, we sometimes hear an underlying message that says, “Jesus is enough". "Activate your faith". "Believe God can do it". Pray harder and longer and your mind and body will be healed.” These phrases make it seem as if our emotional and mental pains are just spiritual problems, and therefore our spiritual teaching and spiritual maturity will make it all go away.
Godly counsel from Christian family, friends and church leaders have convinced us that taking medications for mental health issues is a personal failure, not a faith building experience. Some religious denominations forbid the use of medication. The “Jesus is enough” perspective is causing people to delay seeking the medical and therapeutic treatment they need because they think doing so means they don't have enough faith in Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. God CAN do all things but He does NOT always do things the same way for every person in the same timeframe.
