On this Seeds of Sunshine episode:

  • Dr. Aimee Duffy opened Carolina Integrative Medicine in 2011 because she was finding more research and data and more people were looking for this type of approach to not just fixing a health problem, but wanting to be well.
  • Although Madigan does not want to become a doctor like her mom, for she is in a public speaking program that she likes, she is happy that she made her voice heard and hopes that the book they wrote together will help other teenagers like herself.
  • Find out Madigan’s powerful story about her mental struggles when at 13, she was put in a mental hospital for having suicidal thoughts. The book is just that story told from the first day that she asked for help from her mother. Madigan is happy that it all ended up well and that six years later, she can tell the story together with her mom.
  • To have a teenager who recognizes some signs that they're seeing in themselves and asking for help is powerful.
  • Dr. Duffy highlights the importance of the genetic predisposition and nutritional deficiencies, such as deficiencies and omegas in Vitamin B12 in vitamin D, which could contribute to some mental health issues and symptoms of anxiety and depression.
