AND What's Your Story, by Heather Kokx 1/19/2022
Most of you know I am in love with the Enneagram. For those of you who don't know the Enneagram, it is a system of personality types aimed at self-development. There are 9 personality types.
I am a 9.
We 9s are fearful of putting ourselves out there, asserting ourselves in the world. Making our voice heard is scary. Taking space in the world solely for our own interests is scary.
With that said, I've decided to take a leap of faith and do something I have always wanted to do, but was afraid to do.
I'm going to blog about being an Enneagram 9. There isn't a lot of information on the internet about 9s talking about being 9s. I would really like to read something like that, and I think other 9s would, too.
So, that is my news. I'm changing my blog's theme to my story.
And in doing so, I am changing the story I tell myself - that I can't assert myself in the world. Instead, I'm living the story I want: I can have a voice in the world.
Which leads me to ask, what is your story?
You see, we all have two stories. The stories we tell ourselves, and the true stories of who we are. The hard part is learning which is which.
For example, for years I said I was a bad driver. And everyone said I was a bad driver. Then one day I thought, "Wait. I don't have to be a bad driver."
I changed my story.
Now, I'm not going to say I'm a great driver. But I will say that I no longer think I am a HORRIBLE driver like before.
This week, think about your story. Listen to the stories you tell yourself daily. Think about the story you would like to tell yourself. And think about what the real story is of who you are.
