Have you ever wondered why you have to tell your child to do something what seems like 18 times? I'm talking, "Don't yell," "Stop complaining," It's not nice to hit."
Then, you try to reinforce that his behavior is not okay by offering a consequence. YAY! That's a GOOD thing! You're doing it right!
BUT, did you know that the type of consequence has an impact on whether or not your discipline is effective?
Surprise: It does!
Offering the wrong type of consequence can actually lead to those repeat offenses, where you end up saying something you don't actually mean--and your child knows that, which spirals down a path of not listening--and you yelling, "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO...!"
