“When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” - John 21:21-22
It’s easy for us to get distracted comparing ourselves to other people. We look around and see what other people are doing and not doing and we sometimes feel sorry for ourselves thinking it’s not fair.
The Gospel of John has the risen Jesus focus Peter and by extension us, on the core truth. It really doesn’t matter what anyone else does or doesn’t do. We are responsible to ourselves and to God to reach our potential and fulfill our purpose.
We don’t need to waste a moment trying to make other grown folk do what you think they ought to be doing. It’s really not our business. Their decisions are between them and God.
Answering our calling…
To love our neighbors as ourselves,
To discover and develop our gifts,
And to use those gifts in service to humanity…
This is our business.
