31:05Vicki Sokolik refuses to be an Ostrich. Her son brought to her attention the crisis of unhoused youth — youth unhoused, not living with a parent/guardian, and not in foster care — in America, and she has been fighting to support this vulnerable population every since. Most active in Tampa Bay, Florida, Vicki is the founder and CEO of the nonprofit Starting Right, Now, which removes barriers for unaccompanied homeless youth to cultivate long-term well-being and self-sufficiency. She is also the author of the new book, “If You See Them: Young, Unhoused, and Alone in America.” Vicki Sokolik joined host Jay Ruderman to discuss the many ways unhoused youth fall through the cracks in our society, how her organization helps them, and also how to build trust with people who could use your help. 23:45Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the relationships that came to an end last year. In this episode, I’m sharing the lessons those endings taught me and how they’ve shaped my journey. Letting go isn’t always easy, but it’s essential to make space for healing, growth, and everything we’re meant to receive. This is about releasing what no longer serves us, moving forward with intention, and focusing on becoming the best version of ourselves. Let’s talk about growth, self-love, and starting fresh in the new year. I hope this episode encourages you and uplifts you. Instagram: @themonicehour…
Making friends as an adult is hard enough, but throw in an extra layer of queerness, and it becomes a whole new challenge. In this episode, I open up about the struggles I’ve faced making friends in a new city—like dealing with a lack of boundaries and being treated as “boyfriend #2.” I also dive into the unique challenges of parenting as a queer mom, including navigating mom friendships and teaching my child that everyone deserves to be their authentic selves. This approach can sometimes clash with other parents who teach their kids more rigid ideas about what boys and girls “should” or “shouldn’t” do. This episode is all about setting clear expectations for your friendships—no matter your gender or sexual identity—and raising the next generation to embrace authenticity. Instagram: @themonicehour…
Welcome to the very first episode of The Monice Hour! In this short but heartfelt introduction, I share my story: navigating the journey of coming out, embracing my identity as a queer mother, and the challenges of battling with my sexuality along the way. This episode is all about why staying true to yourself matters—because living authentically isn’t just a choice; it’s a powerful act of self-love. Join me as I set the stage for the conversations to come. Instagram: @themonicehour…
