Joel Youngblood was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of Stephen F. Austin High School in the second round of the 1970 Major League Baseball Draft. He would play in 1408 games over 14 seasons, and in parts of six seasons with the NY Mets. He had his best season as a Met in the strike-shortened season of 1981, when he batted .350 with a .929 OPS and was named an All-Star for the only time in his career. The following season, he made history by becoming the only player to get hits for two different teams in two different cities on the same day. He played for the Mets that afternoon in Chicago, was traded to Montreal after the game, and played for the Expos that night in Philadelphia.
