With over 70 albums and a career that spans over 50 years, John Mayall was the personification of living blues. Born in 1933, he grew up listening to the boogie woogie records of his jazz musician father and taught himself how to play guitar, piano, and harmonica. In the early years of his career, John sought out talented young British blues players and mentored them into stars. Names like Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Mick Taylor, and others all got their start in his band, The Blues Breakers. Later, after moving to the states, Mayall continued to seek out the cream of musicians to play and record with. In 2024, he was finally inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, and yesterday, July 22, 2024, he passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. This week we salute the "God-Father of British Blues and the man I call "The Dean of The University of British Blues".
