What Do You See? (Amos 8:1-14)

God gave Amos a vision of the summer fruit in a basket. This was evidence that the harvest had concluded, and the fruit had been gathered into a burden-bearing basket. Just as the harvest marked the end of the growing season, the basket of summer fruit signified the coming judgment of God in which the rebellious people of Israel would reap the bitter harvest they had sown. Galatians 6:7-10

The grotesque unrepented sins of Israel had reached their limit with God. conclusion. The appointed time of God’s judgment had arrived for His chosen people. God spelled out in detail their punishment.

Love had vanished from the hearts of God’s people, especially for Him and for their neighbors in need. Israel constantly oppressed the poor. Matthew 22:36-40

Israel had disregarded God’s commandments and instead devoted their lives to pursuing worldly pleasures and desires. God made an oath by His that through His heritage He would finalize what He promised.

Due to their disobedient lifestyle, God caused joy to gradually fade from their character until He took it from them completely. Galatians 5:22,23

Like Joel, Amos preached of the Day of Visitation. God has committed a future day of judgment for all men, women, and children.

As Israel chose to sink deeper into sin, they also turned away from the Word of God. In response to their spiritual decline, God declared He would send a catastrophic famine of His Word across the land, leaving no one to hear His message.

Today, we need to guard our hearts. Many churches are straying from Biblical teachings and the core message of salvation through Christ alone. In an effort to avoid offending anyone, they shy away from addressing the reality of sin and the need for redemption. Instead, our culture is filled with false teachers promoting messages centered on prosperity, self-esteem, and political agendas.
