Manage episode 382309884 series 3526444
How do I make sure I’m getting paid as an artist and how do I ensure my work isn’t used without my permission? These are just some of the questions posed by you the listener to Ping, Sarah, and Dorien which they will be answering on today’s Thriving Women Artists podcast. Listen in to find some great advice for artists from three women who have been there and done it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- When someone commissions you to do work, within the contract there should be stated the scope of the work. Meaning you have it already set out how your art is agreed to be used and when and where it can be used.
- Ask to see a final sample before your work is published.
- Have a section in your contract stating that if the person commissioning you wants to use your work for anything else, they have to negotiate with you for permission.
- For some kinds of work you will be sent a breakdown of how many products with your art on them have been sold. This is for when you are getting a percentage of the sales.
- If you’re asked to work on a logo you need to remember it’s one of the most important things for the company. It’s so valuable for them so don’t undervalue yourself. Nike bought their logo for $35, and Pepsi’s cost millions.
- What kind of business is employing you to make a logo, you need to know the brand before you start working, the logo is supposed to represent them and their values.
BEST MOMENTS
