Year Up Founder and CEO Gerald Chertavian believes that skill, more than credentials, is key to making a successful hire. He also thinks it’s a way to close the opportunity gap that primarily impacts low income individuals. In this episode of #ThisIsWorking the Podcast, Dan Roth and Nina Melendez Ibarra discuss Gerald’s mission with Year Up, including primary factors in improving social mobility, whether the ROI on college networks is worth the cost of a 4-year degree, and why Gerald’s pitch to executives on skills-based hiring is a case-study on how to be persuasive.

Special thanks to members Sarah Horne, Virginia Backaitis, and Ben-Jamin Toy for their comments on the topic.
