EPISODE SUMMARY

In 1978, Dave Caspar recovered a 'fumble' in the endzone to score the game winning touchdown against the San Diego Chargers in what became known as 'The Holy Roller.'

In 1989, Deion Sanders ran a punt back for a TD in his Atlanta Falcons debut.

In 1988, 19-year old Steffi Graf defeated 18-year old Gabriela Sabatini to win the US Open. Graf became just the third woman to win all four Grand Slam singles titles in the same year.

In 1962, Rod Laver won the US Open to become just the second man to win all four major tennis tournaments in the same year. He would do it again 7 years later to become the only person to win all four tennis majors in the same year, twice.

And in 1992, Freeman McNeil and seven other NFL players won their court case against the NFL and Plan B Free Agency.

THIS DAY IN SPORTS BACKGROUND

STEVE WHITE BIO

The host of 'This DiSH' is me, Steve White. I've spent most of my life behind a microphone. As a kid, I realized the power of the spoken word, hanging out with my dad while we talked to people around the world via ham radio. Later, I put that penchant for communication into practice and ventured into radio and TV. I've worked for a few television stations in North Carolina doing sports reporting and anchoring before transitioning to voiceover in 2015.

'This Day in Sports History' evolved from a lifetime of watching, listening to, and going to ballgames, reading books, magazines, and newspaper articles about my favorite teams and sports heroes. It's not only a labor of love but a voyage of discovery, finding those forgotten tidbits or fascinating things I never knew.
