Y2K? Ring a bell?! Well in this edition we use a number of examples of how behaviours we exhibit in public, and now social media, can be contagious. More specifically the frenzied almost hysterical behaviours that are brought on by messaging of a pending doomsday. Everything from fighting off your neighbours in the department store toiletry aisle for the last Charmin package, all the way to stocking up on all the can goods your hard earned dollar can buy. We look at this behaviour from the lens of group think, try and characterize it using the broken window theory, and lastly sprinkle in a little Waterworld with Kevin Costner just to add some flavour!
