Episode 51: This Friday's interview is the 28th installment in the Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy block of podcasts. It will focus on the theme A Conversation Evaluating The Intersectionality of Music, Education, and Business. Our guest for this Friday is thought leader Jaquial Durham @jaquialdurham. He is the Founder of nonprofit organization “for the love of community... and he’s an executive Crew Member with record label, Heavy Sound Labs (@heavysoundlabs) and Senior Advisor with Cover360ixty (@cover360ixty). Jaquial Durham is cultivating consciousness concerning issues in education, popular culture, and politics. As am entertainment executive, Jaquial’s appreciation for hip-hop is front and center in his work, positioning the art form as a voice that innovatively emphasizes societal issues in a palatable manner to translate into tools of activism and organizing. Born in Clemson, South Carolina, Jaquial holds a bachelor’s degree in African and African American Studies with a minor in Women and Gender Studies from Winston-Salem State University. Recently earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from The George Washington University. Currently, he’s in a post-masters program at Georgetown University. Jaquial has successfully hosted his Annual Jaquial & Community Turkey Drive for more than seven years, feeding more than 125 households each year during the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition to the local community, Mr. Durham has navigated international communities to better understand lived experiences. Jaquial immersed himself in Palestinian and Brazilian communities. While in Brazil, Durham studied the inhumane experiences of Afro-Brazilians in the prison system. One particular quote drives his passion: “other people's lives, dreams, values and goals are worth the time and patience."
