Dr. James Armitage is a professor of internal medicine and medical oncologist/hematologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He received his undergraduate and medical degree at the University of Nebraska, and completed his internal medicine residency there as well. He completed his fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Armitage developed and directed the bone marrow transplant programs at Iowa and UNMC. At UNMC he’s served as vice chair of the Department of Medicine, chief of the Division of Oncology/Hematology, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, and dean of the College of Medicine. Dr. Armitage has served as president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT). He has authored more than 600 articles and 100 book chapters. He currently holds the position of the Joe Shapiro Professor of Medicine.
