In a significant development regarding the disappearance of Asha Degree, authorities now believe that Asha was killed shortly after she went missing in 2000. Recent search warrants, released in September 2024, reveal that investigators think her body was concealed following her death. This marks a critical shift in the investigation, which had long been a cold case.
The investigation has focused on DNA evidence found in Asha’s belongings, specifically her backpack, which was discovered 17 months after her disappearance. This evidence has been linked to individuals from the local community, including Russell Underhill, who died in 2004, and AnnaLee Dedmon Ramirez, who was 13 years old at the time of Asha's disappearance. Underhill had been living in a facility managed by Roy Dedmon, whose family is now under scrutiny in connection with the case.
Authorities recently conducted searches at several properties connected to the Dedmon family, seizing items of interest, including electronics and a vehicle that matches the description of a car seen near the site of Asha's last sighting. While no human remains have been recovered, investigators believe this new evidence brings them closer to solving the case.
No arrests have been made yet, but the case remains active, and investigators are hopeful that these leads will finally provide answers after more than two decades.
