This is part 2 of a 3-part series with Emily McQueen. If you missed the first episode, you can go back and listen at anytime..it was #067.

Emily is currently the Vice President of Talent Enablement, Development, and Employee Experience at New Rocket. She was recently the 2024 recipient of the ATD Global BEST Award, recognized for excellence in Talent Development and leveraging L&D as a strategic business tool that drives exceptional results. She is a collaborator and strategic partner to the C-suite.

What makes this conversation about the manager’s role in change and in culture such a special one are the examples and tools that Emily will share with us today are invaluable and something that you can walk away from this episode and use TODAY. Whether you are a leader of leaders or a front line manager, there is something for everyone!
Here are some of my takeaways:
1. When going through a transformation, the most important thing that leaders can do is give clarity, elevate connections, and communicate, communicate, communicate.

2. Change is about unfreezing employees and getting that forward movement.

3. Communication can look like open forums, Ask me anything meetings, 1:1 touchpoints, “you matter” conversations, coffee talks, and more. Get creative.

4. Culture enables, supports, reinforces the strategy the missions, imperatives and direction.

5. Culture touchpoints are things like your website, your core values, employee value proposition, talent management practices, communication, policies, Create a culture recalibration team and bring a team together to look at all of the culture touchpoints to determine what might need to change.

6. There are 3 types of empathy, emotional empathy, cognitive empathy, and compassionate empathy.
