Tune in here to this Friday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show!

Brett kicks off the program by talking about DOJ drops Jan. 6 obstruction charges in more than half of pending cases In June, the Supreme Court determined that the DOJ had applied an overly broad interpretation of a statute that imposes up to 20 years in prison for those who “corruptly obstruct, influence, or impede any official proceeding.” Since the ruling in Fischer v. United States, about 60 out of 126 defendants had their pending obstruction charges dismissed, according to DOJ data released last week, which significantly diminishes the threat of decades of jail time for the defendants.

and Mega' El Niño may have fueled Earth's biggest mass extinction New research suggests that an overload of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere led to the climatic shift, which, in turn, killed 90% of the species on Earth around 250 million years ago, at the end of the Permian period. The finding has implications for modern climate science: Researchers don't know how current warming will affect the El Niño-La Niña cycle, but even a fraction of the disruption resulting from the world's worst mass extinction would make life for humanity very difficult.

We're joined by Nick Craig From Carolina News Journal to talk about His new Show Debuting Monday September 16, at 5amt here on WBT as Craig Will delve into local and statewide political matters in North Carolina

Bo Thompson from Good Morning BT is also here for this Friday episode of Crossing the Streams. Brett and Bo talk about a live event at Kings Mountain, highlighting the Liberty Mountain production, before diving into sports-related discussions. A key focus is on the recent injury to NFL quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and how it parallels past concussion-related retirements, like that of Luke Kuechly from the Carolina Panthers. They explore the risks of playing football and how injuries can abruptly end careers .

and The conversation then shifts to the growing influence of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals in high school and college sports. They discuss how young athletes are now able to earn money, which may lead to changes in how they approach their athletic careers, including concerns about injuries and the potential for NIL deals to transform college athletes into something resembling free agents.. Bo also shares what He and Beth have coming up Monday on Good Morning BT!
