For some pop music fans, there was a milestone reached in September, though it didn’t receive widespread attention: It was 60 years since the release of the very first Sonny & Cher single, Baby Don’t Go. (Though the song flopped on its first release, it made the Top 10 when it was re-released a year later, following the success of I Got You Babe.) Since then, Cher has been a fixture in American pop culture, with an Oscar, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, and a résumé that includes a dozen Top 10 singles and more than a dozen high-profile movies, including Moonstruck, Mask, The Witches of Eastwick, and Mermaids. Now, she’s written a book about her life and her illustrious career. Well, it’s actually two books, with the first out now and the second arriving next year. Cher: The Memoir, Part One covers her formative years; over the course of her career, we’ve spoken to her over the years, and she once recounted a memorable moment that helped inspire her to pursue a career on stage.
