Does the Church threaten the health of isolated people groups when she goes into all the world?

Last week, the public became aware of the death of U.S. missionary, John Allen Chau on the North Sentinel Island. His encounter with the North Sentinelese caused many people to voice concerns about the dangers of an outsider engaging an isolated people who lack immunity to diseases common throughout the modern world.

Dr. Scott James is my guest on this special episode of Strike the Match. Dr. James is an infectious diseases physician in Birmingham, Alabama. He also serves as an elder with The Church at Brook Hills and has traveled extensively throughout the world on mission trips.

During our conversation, we discuss questions such as:

  • Is there truth to the media’s concerns regarding the threat of possible exposure and death?
  • How should the Church think about the issue of public health and disciple making among remote and isolated people groups?
  • What is the relationship of missiology and epidemiology?
  • How does loving my neighbor relate to my health before I go into all the world?

You do not want to miss this episode that addresses an important topic related to all Kingdom citizens. Listen. Share. Discuss. Act. Go.
