AM Edition for July 14

Today’s scripture underscores the importance of maintaining the purity of God's altar by building it with unhewn stones, free from human craftsmanship. This command emphasizes preserving the gospel's purity, avoiding human attempts to refine or enhance it. Such efforts can lead to defilement, altering the pure gospel into something unrecognizable. Human pride often drives the desire to contribute to our justification, but any addition to Christ’s finished work dishonors and pollutes it. Only God's work in atonement is perfect, and no human effort is acceptable on His divine altar.

Key Points:

  1. Purity of the Gospel: The instruction to use unhewn stones symbolizes the need to preserve the gospel's purity, avoiding human alterations.
  2. Human Efforts: Any human attempt to add to or refine the gospel pollutes it, transforming it into something it was never meant to be.
  3. Divine Work: The work of atonement is solely God's domain, and human pride should not interfere with Christ's finished work.
  4. Acceptance: Believers must accept and rejoice in the unaltered truths of God's Word, resisting the temptation to reshape them according to personal understanding.
