"Scars are tattoos with better stories."

If we normalize and acknowledge the feelings of #pain, #anxiety, #depression, & #sadness then maybe we can discuss it in a normal fashion. Maybe people hurting will feel less shame & guilt...and not pile it on top of already heavy & unwanted feelings. Behind some of the largest personalities hide the darkest feelings. Make your space a space where people feel welcome for expression. #Traumas & #Triggers Oh our beautiful unavoidable baggage we carry like accessories. Do you show them off like a new designer purse or shove them as far deep as you can in your backpack of shadows? Either way you're carrying them with you daily -like a collection- & it gets heavy. We don't even get big muscles to show from the sweat of our brow. But guess what... we don't HAVE to carry it around. We can drop our luggage anywhere we see fit. Our lives are not lived in the airport-where if we choose to leave our bag behind we could be asking for trouble. In fact it's the opposite-the world kindly asks you to leave it behind & yet we CHOOSE to pick it up daily. Unpacking the bag & trashing what we no longer need is productive & yet more difficult than it should be. All trauma is an experience no matter what label that you slap on it good- bad- ugly- beautiful- sad- & indifferent.... I think as we become older we start feeling #guilt & #shame because of how we view are past. We've told our story to others & we've heard "you should just move on/get over it or it probably wasn't as bad as it seems..." First you need to understand that your feelings are valid. It's OK to feel what you feel without believing. It makes you less than or attaching a false belief to it. Then we find ourselves isolated because we feel like no one understands & then we look up & we're lonely. Loneliness is an echo of an old wound that you reopen into self-pity. Once we understand that we have to have darkness to appreciate the light, then we can really dig into that darkness, to understand the unknown that lies in its depths. We don't have to hide our darkness but harness it into the reality- Appreciate it for what it is & the lessons that you've learned from it. Tips to Help with Trauma Recovery: Talk with others about how you feel. Don’t isolate yourself. Calm yourself. Try meditation or deep breathing exercises. Do physical activity, like walking or yoga. Take care of yourself. Get plenty of sleep. Eat a healthy diet. Drink enough water. Avoid using alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. Get back to your daily routine. Do the things you would normally do, even if you don’t feel like it. Get involved in your community. Volunteering is a great way to create a sense of meaning. Get help if symptoms persist. Talk with a mental health professional.(If you need help connecting to one, I would be more than happy to give you a referral that fits your goals & budget.) If you’re trying to help a friend, listen and find out where they are in the coping process. Try to accept their feelings and help in any way you can. You do not have to carry this burden alone. You are worthy of healing. You are not alone. The most difficult step is the first one & that's picking up the phone.
