In this episode, Brian Curtis, Ph.D. speaks with Richard Lang. Richard was a student of Douglas Harding, the philosophical writer, teacher, and author of many books, including The Hierarchy of Heaven and Earth, and On Having No Head: Zen and the Rediscovery of the Obvious.

Richard has written several books about his experiences over 40 years helping others see who they really are and about how to live from this truth.

Brian and Richard discuss a wide range of topics, including how Richard became interested in questions about his true nature, his meeting Douglas Harding, the importance of being honest, and relying on our own experience and testing things out for ourselves when investigating this fundamental question of who we really are. Richard will lead listeners through a few experiments to direct your attention at yourself to see who you are from your own point of view, the implications of this insight for deepening your relationships, the role of development in losing and rediscovering your true nature, Richard’s recent efforts to help people communicate about their own experiences with others, properly locating where your thoughts are, theory of mind, the resulting implications for your suffering and wellbeing, and how these discoveries lead to awe, wonder, and unlocking many new mysteries to explore.
