When we’re in a bad mood, we often create more wreckage than necessary.

If we did things a little differently, we could make space to feel our feelings while keeping our relationships strong and connected.

With only one day left on our Paris trip, my phone was stolen, and I was so focused on the pictures I lost that I was allowing it to wreck our last 24 hours of fun, until my fiancé Patrick put his foot down and I agreed to shift my state.

We were able to navigate this tricky situation with tips that I’ll be sharing to help you shift your mood and shield your loved ones from unnecessary conflict.

Tune in to this episode: When You're in a Bad Mood.

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ When bad things happen, give yourself grace! Let people around you know that you need some space to decompress. This prevents you from venting your frustrations on your loved ones and prevents long-term wreckage.

✔️ Ready to shift? Try box breathing. But if you’re not prepared to change, don’t force it! If you’re ready, do several rounds of inhaling, holding, exhaling, and holding, each one for the same count of (at least) four, depending on your comfort level with holding out your exhale.

✔️ Sweat out the bad mood! If breathing exercises aren’t for you, get moving. Dance to your favorite song. Pound a pillow. Masturbate. Take a walk or do any rigorous physical activity to shift your state for the better.

✔️ Steer your attention somewhere else. When we’re pissed, our attention tends to focus itself inward. The key is to get out of your head – step outside. Spend time in nature. Look at something beautiful. Pet cute puppies at the animal shelter. Do what feels good to shift your focus.

Don’t let your nervous system control you! You have more power to shift your state than you might believe. If you don’t want to, no problem! Take your time, and consider how you could be affecting the people around you by choosing to stay where you are.
