Barry first found music when he borrowed his sister's record collection when he was about eight and was hooked. When Caroline started it was a new beginning, and he listened to all the stations, but Caroline was his favourite by far. Later he became a singer in a band, then started doing discos when he was 18. David France is a documentary filmmaker, writer and journalist in New York, whose directing credits include Oscar-Nominated How To Survive a Plague, The Death and Life of Marsha P Johnson, and last year's Welcome to Chechnya, the horrific story of the genocide of queer people in the Russian state of Chechnya.
In this Skype interview we discussed his transition from journalism to film, how he ensured the anonymity of his subjects through ground-breaking VFX and ADR, and his working relationship with legendary mixer Lora Hirschberg, who has also worked on films such as The Dark Knight and Inception.
