S5E37: Beyond Stigma: Innovating Mental Wellness for a Brighter Future with Michaela O’Reggio
Manage episode 424237131 series 3354713
1 in 2 Canadians will face mental illness by the age of 40. Young people between 15 and 24 are particularly vulnerable, experiencing mental illness and substance use disorders more frequently than any other age group. Human beings are intricately shaped by biological, psychological, social, and internal beliefs. While awareness of the interconnected nature of mental well-being is increasing, the biomedical model continues to dominate. Another significant challenge is that 60% of individuals won’t seek help or disclose their struggles due to fear of stigma. Misunderstanding, fear, and negative attitudes towards those with mental health or substance use issues hinder both individuals from seeking help and others from offering appropriate support. We explore an innovative holistic solution in this episode.
Michaela O’Reggio is a Holistic Empowerment Guide and Mental Health First Aid Facilitator who is passionate about continuing her Grandmother's legacy of brightening lives. She empowers organizations and individuals, with a focus on young people and families facing mental wellness and/or relationship challenges such as overwhelm, fatigue, stress, anxiety, and depression. Michaela guides them with her holistic A.C.E. approach, including integrated modalities, to achieve extraordinary breakthroughs. In this episode, we move beyond limiting stigma and the traditional biomedical model to embrace compassion and the mental wellness continuum. We present an innovative holistic solution that remarkably addresses mental wellness challenges.
