What I want to discuss with you today is what the world might look like if cars become self-driving.

I know there's a lot of speculation about whether this can happen. But that discussion is a bit outdated. There is no reason from a technological perspective that it couldn't happen. If you listen to my podcast regularly, this won't surprise you. And many arguments that legislators won't find it acceptable also don't apply. There are already many areas in the world where robot taxis operate. The economic benefits are so great and safety so much better that legislators are eager to approve this technology.

There are a number of obvious things that everyone thinks about when a car no longer needs a driver. Enjoy reading the newspaper, taking a nap, or playing a game with other people in the car. And of course, that's true. All such things will become possible. But as always when a new technology is introduced, many more things will change than we initially think.
