Athari Aqeedah: Origins, history and principles
Manage episode 310889178 series 3076188
Nurtured and enlightened by the Prophetic teachings, the companions had a deep faith which soon shined from the East to the West. Their legacy and approach to understanding beliefs in light of the Quran and the prophetic sunnah was passed down and embraced by the next generations of early Muslims, such as the four imams.
It sometimes came under great threat and persecution, but the courage of scholars such as Imam Ahmad in the East and Imam Sahnun al-Maliki in the West ensured its preservation.
This early approach in understanding matters of aqeedah (creed) has become known as athari (narration-based) or hanbali (in reference to Imam Ahmad for his stance in the defense of the belief of the people of sunnah).
Regardless of their school of jurisprudence, great scholars continued to preserve and transmit this approach. They are such as Ibn Abil-izz al-Hanafi, Abu Umar al-Talamanki al-Maliki, Abu Uthman al-Sabuni al-Shafi’i, Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani al-Hanbali, and countless others.
In this unique podcast, shaykh Hassan al Kettani will lay out the origins, principles and main works students of aqeedah should study to emulate their predecessors.
