Brooklyn party starter @dgro delights us at chapter 56 with an exclusive mix made of eclectic music tastes including catchy disco, funk, and house tunes from across the world. Enjoy! DGRO BIO Making his celebrated grand entrance to the world of music at age 4, DGRO started with the cello. Finding that not nearly noisy enough, he picked up a pair of sticks and sat behind his first drum kit at age 10. Splitting his time between the orchestra at Juilliard and his high school indie-rock band, Station9, he spent most of his free time listening to dance music and watching videos of European raves online. Fast forward 10 years after studying experimental electronic music in college, DGro found DGRO and realized his passion for sharing music he loves while making people dance. Growing up on a healthy mix of rock, pop, classical, electronic, funk, and jazz, DGRO’s biggest musical influence came when his childhood drum teacher suggested he listen to Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue and Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters. While the style of music may be different, the jazz principles in these albums has greatly influenced DGRO’s aesthetic. With a focus on crafting musical sets that take the crowd on an intriguing journey, DGRO can most commonly be found in New York City at parties such as ANTES, the monthly he co-founded to celebrate funky music from around the world. DGRO has been featured in publications such as Thump, MixMag, Magnetic Mag, doNYC, Daily Beat, and Dancing Astronaut. DGRO has shared a bill with acts such as Aroop Roy, JKriv, Miss Melera, Martin Roth, Adana Twins, Bonobo, Dusky, Hoj, Landis Lapace, Wolf & Lamb, Nora En Pure, Rüfüs du Sol, Shpongle, STS9, Wankelmut, and Yotto and has performed at Elements and Electric Forest Festivals.
