Families! A local school invited me to speak to teachers and parents (autism classrooms) about Thomais' experiences and views about the diagnosis, dealing with reality and moving forward. This became an empowering exchange with a mom of twins, of limited means, who feels challenged yet more committed to her role of a mother -- and everything it means. The greatest surprise -- the 10 year old sister of the twins with autism. Wise beyond her ears. So understanding of the diagnosis, the behaviors. She knows what she wants for her future... to be a teacher of special needs students. You know it -- she will be the best teacher ever! What did I learn - one more time?
