Curiosity and practice have allowed Lara Knutson to satisfy her dream of experiencing light. Her objects are either made of reflective materials that turn the material into immaterial or the other way around. Lara uses light as a material to create objects that both are and are not there and that still allow the viewer to interact with them.
Her work has been included in the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art while most of her production finds applications in a variety of fields, from architectural space design, to lighting design, and fine art painting.
In Lara's words: “What I really think about light objects is that they become special when you share a moment with them. Light causes you to pause and be there with it. This is the ultimate luxury because time is the most fleeting thing we own.”
Lara Knutson is an Artist, Industrial Designer and Architect who lives and works in New York City. She received a master’s degree in Industrial Design and a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Pratt Institute and believes her work is informed by the interplay of light, space, materials and structure that unite these two disciplines.
