It’s podcast time, which means loads of games, including some absolutely massive RPGs that we’ve all been playing.

Since we’ve been away we’ve been playing so many games, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which one of us has finished, the other is halfway through, and the other, despite it being his most wanted game of the year, hasn’t even started. In fairness, that’s likely because he’s been hammering through Unicorn Overlord, while the rest of us just leisurely enjoy our space farming survival game, Lightyear Frontier. Oh and just in case you’re worried, we won’t be doing spoilers for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on this podcast, so you can listen without fear.

The Thaumaturge is another game that’s been released recently, so we have a chat about that, and why it’s worth your time if you’re on PC, or Steam Deck, etc. And yes, we finally get to the listener questions that have been outstanding for around a month. Whoops.

You can contact us to get your listener questions on the podcast via our Discord, but if you upgrade to become a Patreon member (for £1/$1) you’ll gain access to loads of other channels and exclusive an exclusive bonus podcast. You can also send us questions via @GodisaGeek on Twitter, or even email podcasts@godisageek.com if you fancy doing things old school.

The podcast is back after our winter break! We’ve need a reset after nearly 20 hours of game of the year discussions , but it’s time to get going with more new games, with another big year of games to come. Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana isn’t technically new, but it is a new release, and both Lyle and Adam have been playing that with its new-era release. Elsewhere, Mick and Steve have been playing early access survival game ALOFT, but it seems to have quite a gimmick going for it. Lastly on the first episode of 2025, Adam and Mick have been finally playing the first Citizen Sleeper game and… well, they’re rather blown away. You can contact us to get your listener questions on the podcast via our Discord, but if you upgrade to become a Patreon member (for £1/$1) you’ll gain access to loads of other channels and exclusive an exclusive bonus podcast. Day five of the GodisaGeek Game of the Year 2024 deliberations is here, and it’s the big one, with our top ten of the year. Before we get to that, however, we do need to have a look forward to 2025 . There are some very big games looming on the horizon, like Death Stranding 2, or even Metroid Prime 4. But as is tradition, before we get to our top ten games of 2024, we do have the small matter of a top five most anticipated of next year, to decide first. After that though, it’s what everyone comes for: the Game of the Year 2024 top ten list. Will there be any shocks, or surprises? People have been beavering away to finish some games they think might be contenders, and personal lists have been tweaked and finalised (hopefully!). So that’s all that’s left, then: what’s the top ten, and who is the winner? Grab the audio file here . There’s a load of ways you can keep up to date on all things GOTY 2024 here, this December, on GodisaGeek, but it’s worth noting you can hear all the episodes a week early, every year, if you become a Patreon of the site. This helps fund podcasts like this, but so much more, so consider it, please ? On that note, if you want to discuss along as the week of Game of the Year 2024 plays out, you can do so on our Discord , though be aware that outside of the “General” chat, it’s all for Patreon-members, who might be a week ahead of you by now! Alternatively, make you subscribe to us on YouTube for the video version (also delivered a week early to Patreons), and click the bell button so you’re notified when the new episodes go live each day. If you don’t want to do any of that, we get it: times are hard. The podcast is a labour of love, though, so consider buying us a coffee. Day four of the GodisaGeek Game of the Year 2024 deliberations is here, and it’s another bumper episode. While not quite as long as the epic day four from 2023, the team start out being worried about there not being enough good stories in 2024, before slowly realising it’s actually been a rather incredible year for stories in games. As usual, we can’t talk about stories and moments without spoilers, so be warned. We do try to avoid it unless necessary, but it is necessary a lot: sorry! The major spoilers will obviously be in the second part of this podcast, talking about specific moments from games, and so therefore you might want to finish up the stories of games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, although we do steer away from full spoilers for those, as best we can. Grab the audio file here . Day three of the GodisaGeek Game of the Year 2024 deliberations is here, as the team of Adam, Chris H, Mick, and Lyle discuss the best multiplayer game of 2024, and the best new character for the year. Best multiplayer is more stacked than we thought this year, and it’s no shock we’ve been enjoying games like Helldivers 2 as a team, but best new character? Corr, that’s a spicy one. Emotions will run high and friendships will be broken. Not really, as usual. But it’s a really brutal one this year, with so many beloved new characters entering our lives. People have been getting big games finished, just so they can talk about titles and characters from the likes of The Thaumaturge, or Banishers; Ghosts of New Eden. It’s been a great year for stories and characters, which is nice. Grab the audio file here . Day two of the GodisaGeek Game of the Year 2024 deliberations is here, as the team of Adam, Chris H, Mick, and Lyle discuss the audio and best visuals of what has been a pretty incredible year of gaming. It’s time to discuss the best audio and visual experiences of the year, and it’s been an incredible one . The visuals in games have almost hit breaking point, with titles that looked and sounded great. Do they all make a list after everything has been said and discussed though? You’ll have to watch or listen to find out. Download the audio version, here . It’s time. It’s finally time! Day one of the GodisaGeek Game of the Year 2024 deliberations is here, as the team of Adam, Chris H, Chris W, Mick, and Lyle with the now traditional bumper opening episode. Best re-release starts things off, and seems to be getting bigger and longer every year. Nicest surprise has a few moments that catch everyone out. Biggest disappointment… has gone for 2024. We decided to be positive and take the category we did in our bonus (Patreon Exclusive) day six episode from last year and use that as the third category on day one: welcome to Best DLC. On this episode of the podcast it’s time to discuss one of the year’s biggest games in the form of Dragon Age: The Veilguard , among others. It turns out that it takes time to play through games like Dragon Age: The Veilguard , so we kept our powder dry and waited for the expert, Chris Hyde, to be ready to speak about it, and now is that time; you lucky people. But somehow, that’s not the only huge role-playing game we’ve been going hard at. Adam has been playing Mario & Luigi: Brothership for a while, and his feelings are all over the shop on it. On this week’s episode of the podcast, it’s time to talk about Super Mario Party Jamboree , and find out what everyone thinks of the long-running series. Adam has played it at preview, and now for review, and is a big fan. But can he convince Chris Hyde and Chris White to play Super Mario Party Jamboree with him online, actually shelling out hard-earned money for the game? It’s also a good chance to check in with Chris White, as he played Silent Hill 2 for review, and now we can get to hear more of his thoughts on the game. But it’s also time for Adam and Chris White to get nervous, as Chris Hyde has finally started Astro Bot . Could hearts be broken on the podcast, or does he like it, too? The podcast returns and with it comes Lyle to chat lots about the latest Atlus RPG: Metaphor: ReFantazio . Is it any good? Yes, probably. Adam has also seen Metaphor: ReFantazio through to credits, which means he and Lyle have had little time for much else, actually. Well no, that’s not true, since both the duo have also been playing through Silent Hill 2 . No, not the original game, the much awaited remake. Has it been worth the wait? Did Bloober Team manage to do it? Listen to find out. But also listen to find out what Lyle thinks of UFO 50 , and if Adam has gotten through any more of the 50-strong list of games. Spoiler: Lyle likes it, and yes, he has. It might be the second time we’ve talked about UFO 50 on the podcast, but hey, it’s 50 games and we’ve been playing Metaphor: ReFantazio, and lots of other things that are under embargo, so bare with us. On the latest episode of the podcast it’s time to talk about a brand new game: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom . Adam had previously played some for a preview, but he’s finished The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom now, and has reviewed it, with plenty to say about it. We even have some listener correspondence directly about the game itself. Elsewhere, Lyle hasn’t talked about Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition yet, but wants to, and who is gonna stop him? Likewise Chris Hyde is coming with a very on-brand game to chat about: Shapez 2 . Factory management? That’s unlike him, right? As mentioned, we’ve also got some listener correspondence to get through, including another question about Lyle’s combat abilities. On the latest episode of the podcast, it’s time to discuss a game that’s been coming a very, very long time: UFO 50 . UFO 50 was actually announced back in 2017, and some 7 years later, all 50 games of UFO 50 are here to play, and Adam has been going through them slowly. You see, while these may look like smaller games as part of a collection, he explains that these are pretty much all fully fledged titles in their own right, with some caveats. Elsewhere, another game that has been long on the “most wanted” list is here, in the form of The Plucky Squire . Can it deliver on more than looks? Does it live up to the expectations and hope of the team, who have all been dying to play it for what seems like forever? One thing is for sure, the whiplash between the colourful, bright, cheery aesthetic of The Plucky Squire and UFO 50 and the nature of Frostpunk 2 is something, for sure. Thankfully Chris White is here to talk us through what is a fantastic game, but one you’ll need to be ready for. On this edition of the podcast it’s time to talk about something a little bit new, something you may not have heard of, and something slightly older. Chris White is back again on this episode to discuss Star Wars Outlaws , a game which has had a lot of mixed opinion and almost feels as though it’s come and gone in rapid style, despite it being a brand new Star Wars game from a huge publisher. Looking back a bit further, Chris Hyde has gone back to Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden , a game the crew feel hasn’t had enough love, and one that feels a lifetime ago, let alone from earlier this year . Out this week, Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines is a sequel to a game most will have missed, but it’s ace regardless. And of course, there’s time for some listener correspondence. What’s that, a flying pig… no, it’s actually a podcast about video games from us, and yes, we’ve got some explaining to do. While we’ve been away, so many games have come (and gone), but rather than make the first one back after a few months away a sixteen hour epic, we decided to talk about Astro Bot , which we’re all loving. After that, it’s time to see what Chris Hyde thinks of Visions of Mana , especially given the series contains one of his favourite games of all time. Lastly, it’s time to see what choices we made in The Casting of Frank Stone , which we all seem to be falling in different places on, critique wise. Of course listener correspondence is back, too, and that’s where we explain our two month absence. The Summer is here on the podcast, meaning everyone is everywhere, but also, we get to chat to Chris White about Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 . Both he and Adam have finished it, and have a lot of thoughts about it, some of which are quite complicated. Interesting… Elsewhere, Lyle had a chance to play Multiversus before it came back, and the gang are wondering how it’ll do it today’s market. Chris White has also been playing Hades 2 , which, to everyone’s absolute shock, is a very good game as well. After a bit of a hiatus, the podcast is back and the games we have to talk about are an eclectic bunch, really running the gamut. If you’re a Patreon supporter and have been keeping up on things in our Discord, you’ll know that Adam and Chris Hyde are hopelessly addicted to factory building game Foundry . The safe and nice, peril-free world has them utterly compelled to build forever and more. Could this truly be a Satisfactory beater? But on the other hand, Chris Hyde has also been banging his head against puzzle game Lorelei and the Laser Eyes , which Adam has also tried, and, well, has given up on, for now. Elsewhere, Animal Well is a new MetroidVania, and it’s got zero combat, so of course Lyle has been all over that one. You can contact us to get your listener questions on the podcast via our Discord, but if you upgrade to become a Patreon member (for £1/$1) you’ll gain access to loads of other channels and exclusive an exclusive bonus podcast.
