With Germany ribbons in their hair and the hope of a medal, the German cross-country skiers will start the World Championship relay in Planica on Thursday. "The anticipation and aggressiveness are very high. That is always the highlight of a major event. We are all highly motivated," said team sprint Olympic champion Katharina Hennig on Wednesday.

On Thursday (12.30 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport) the German women's relay has the greatest hopes for the first German cross-country medal at a World Cup in ten years. "A medal would be a huge goal. But we know that we all have to be in top form for it," said Pia Fink, seventh over ten kilometers on Tuesday.

Laura Gimmler will be the starting runner over the 4x5 kilometers in Slovenia, with Victoria Carl bringing up the rear after Hennig and Fink.

At the 2022 Olympics, Germany won silver behind Russia and ahead of Sweden. At the dress rehearsal in the World Cup at the beginning of February, the DSV relay was in second place before a reporting error led to disqualification. "That's motivation for us. We want to show that we can do it again," said Fink.

Thanks to Coletta Rydzek, the German women will not be overlooked. "Coletta brought Germany ribbons that we want to braid into our hair," said Hennig with a wink: "Today we have to practice how that works."
