Episode 4: Negation Gaawiin —-sinoon -zinoon This week we begin negating VIIS!There are very slight differences technically to how we conjugate these verbs based on the ending of their root form. The three endings are Vowel endings, N Endings and D endings. All three begin with a Gaawiin though:If the VII Ends in an N, Begin with a gaawiin, then the verb and add zinoon to the end of it.So Onzhishin (It is nice) becomes Gaawiin Onzhishinzinoon (It is not nice)If the VII Ends with a D, Begin with a Gaawiin, subtract the d from the end of the verb and add sinoon. So Biinad (it is clean) become Gaawiin biinasinoon (It is not clean). If the VII ends with a vowel, Begin with Gaawiin then the verb, then add sinoon. So Michaa (it is big) becomes Gaawiin Michaasinoon (It is not big) VIIs this episode: Refresher words:Gisinaa vii: It is coldAte vii: It is in a certain placeNoondaagwad vii it is heardGimiwan vii it is rainingAwanibiisaa vii It is SprinklingAgoode vii: It is hangingWaaseyaa: vii It is sunnyMichaa: vii It is big.Giizhiitaa: vii it is done, it is readyOnzhishin: vii it is niceWese’an: vii There is a tornado New Words this episode:Noodin: vii It is windyGashkawan: vii there is a thick fogBiinad: vii it is cleanNiiskaadad: vii there is bad weatherMinose: vii it goes well, it is good luckBaswewe: vii it echoes Examples in the Text:Gaawiin biinasinoon jiibaakwewigamig: The kitchen isn’t cleanGaawiin niiskaadasinoon Bemijigamaag noongom: There’s no Bad weather in Bemidji today.Gaawiin minosesinoon ji-waabamind gookooko’oo: It is not good luck to see an owl.Gaawiin Baswewesinoon.
